This summer, I had the joy of traveling to Peru with an incredible group of students, their families, and a nonprofit partner. Together, we explored the historic city of Cusco, marveled at the breathtaking Machu Picchu, and created unforgettable memories through volunteer work with local school children.

Exploring the Wonders of Peru
Our adventure began in Cusco, a city that feels like stepping into a history book. From wandering its cobblestone streets to exploring the towering fortress of Sacsayhuamán, every moment was a chance to connect with the rich Incan and colonial history.

Then came the highlight of our trip: Machu Picchu. I still remember the look on everyone’s faces as we stood at the Sun Gate, taking in the misty ruins and towering mountains. For the more adventurous among us, we even climbed Huayna Picchu, the steep peak overlooking Machu Picchu. It was a thrilling challenge, but the view from the top made every step worth it!

Connecting with the Community
What made this trip truly special was the time we spent with local school children. Through our nonprofit partner, we visited a community school where we shared talents, laughter, and stories.

One of the most rewarding moments was handing out 100 backpacks we had collected and filled with school supplies. Seeing the children’s smiles as they opened their backpacks was a reminder of how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

We also had fun creating handicrafts together and sharing the story of the Chinese New Year “年“. The kids loved learning about the zodiac, and it was so touching to see them connect with the story. These simple moments of connection reminded us all of how much we can learn from each other.
